We have constructed wooden benches commissioned for the Whitstable shoreline. One bench was a private commission in remembrance of a woman who loved the sea, hence a wave pattern and an echo of the surrounding groynes.
Another bench was commissioned to remember the peace campaigner of Parliament Square, Brian Haw. Our design won the public competition and the bench is now located along Whitstable’s beach front. This was unveiled in April 2014 and features words that we hand carved to resemble Brian’s peace banners.
Both works are built from constructional oak and utilise large mortice and tenon joints to provide strength and durability. For the Haw bench we employed 6″ square oak which we then rounded-off by hand to resemble the banner poles.
