Whitknits, Whitstable

For this wool shop in Whitstable we provided full shop-fitting design, build and installation services. We even came up with the name: Whitknits!

The design concept revolved around allowing the storage to melt into the background and become inconspicuous, while still being fully functional and ensuring that the wool is visible and prominently displayed.  The circulation and signage within the shop were also important aspects of this design. We wanted the finished store to be clear and well laid out for customers, making the shop as easy to navigate as possible.

The MDF units were hand-painted in white eggshell and the base of each display column contains a large storage drawer that allows display stock to be quickly and easily replenished. Discreetly contained behind part of a shallow display unit is a door that leads to staff-only facility, utilising available shop-floor space to the maximum.

Care was taken to keep all horizontal lines flowing as well as front fascias. This always takes time in old, uneven buildings but it is worth it for the finished effect.

“Working with Moosejaw was a very positive experience. Sarah, their designer, was very receptive to my brief and created a fantastic design. When the work started in the shop, the guys worked effectively and quickly. I was impressed by their attention to detail and the quality of finish that was achieved, and all within budget! I really appreciated that it went so smoothly. There were no stressful problems that I had to deal with. Moosejaw followed it through completely and as a result, my business is going from strength to strength!” — Linda Tiley
